herb garden
This woodcut was started in the summer of 2021, as I sat in my garden and sketched out the motherwort and clover and bee balm. Then, a few months later, by the wood stove I added in mullein and hops and sacred basil and nettles. In spring 2022 I started carving, a process that was interrupted by travel, a residency, and many other intermediate projects. The block waited patiently until fall of 2022, when I finally finished carving. When I pulled the first print, I realized that this block will now and forever serve as a reminder to slow down. Good things come to those who wait.
Herb Garden is printed with nontoxic, vegetable based inks on lotka paper* and measures 12x18” (paper measures 14x20”). Limited run of 50.
10% of sales made from this print will be donated to the Seed Savers Exchange.
*Environmentally friendly lokta paper is handmade in Nepal from the fibers of the Nepal Paper Plant (a fast-growing shrub that regrows in 4-6 years after cutting). The harvest and creation of these lotka papers serve as a reliable source of income for Nepalese artisans.
