guardians of the grasses

$170.00

“Guardians of the grasses” is a many-layer reduction woodcut celebrating sheep and their grassy sanctuaries. It features Maine-bred Katahdin sheep, grass-fed in a healthy pasture that is managed ecologically so wildlife like bobolinks can safely coexist, making the ecosystem diverse and balanced.

As I worked on this piece, I was reading The Salt Stones by Helen Whybrow. Reading about the history, culture, and ecology of sheep farming gave me another layer of appreciation for my favorite animal, and I highly recommend.

This woodcut was printed with nontoxic vegetable oil-based inks. Printed on fabriano rosaspina paper. Block measures 14 × 14.25." Limited run of 12.

Due to the nature of the block printing process, colors and printing will vary slightly in each print.
