My prints explore place. Countless elements come together to form place. I live in the seacoast of New Hampshire, near rocky beaches, hemlock/pine/beech forests, marshes, and rivers. This is my place and these are the natural elements that inspire me to create. But place also involves humans and how they interact with these natural surroundings. My great concern over the many human-caused problems affecting my place is what drives the subject matter of my work.

But I am an optimist, and I create woodcuts to celebrate what we have and what we need to hold onto. Perhaps as a reminder of why we need to hold onto them. The scenes I depict are often colorful, but I also work in black and white. The prints are realistic and portray the subjects as full, vibrant, beautiful, and alive. The rhythm and repetition of the printmaking process mirrors the patterns inherent in nature. I want viewers to walk away feeling a connection with this piece of nature and a desire to protect their own place.
